Tips for Beginning Bloggers

If you are a new blogger, congratulations! Blogging is a great way to get your voice heard and make money. A lot of people have made a lot of cash as a blogger, so it is no surprise that you want to get a piece of that pie.

As you get started, you want to do whatever you can to get up and running with the best blog possible right away. By getting off to a strong start, you stand a better chance of having money start coming in for you even sooner! These tips should help you and your blog to get off the ground.

Don’t over design your blog.

Simple is often better. The less clutter on your blog, the easier it is for visitors to find your content and click on your ads. Too many widgets and accessories may seem helpful, but they are really just distracting and can make your blog look unprofessional.

Plan ahead.

Blogs are able to build and maintain regular readership by posting quality, high value content on a regular basis. If you aren’t used to writing often, this could be quite a tall order.

If you haven’t started your site yet, you should start writing. When you feel particularly inspired, write and bank articles for the future. You can use the content you have saved up to post at times when you may have other obligations keeping you busy or a particularly nasty case of writer’s block.

Get a unique domain.

It certainly is tempting to start blogging completely for free. It is no risk starting a free blog, spending only your time. Your blog will be hosted under a domain, which means that in the eyes of some search engines, it isn’t its own site. In the eyes of some visitors, it isn’t something professional and worth reading.

In order to get SEO benefits and to look like a pro, you can make a minimum investment in your own domain and hosting. By having your own domain, it shows that you are serious about your blog, and visitors will appreciate that. Your own domain name smacks of professionalism and quality.

Use images.

Remember being a kid and getting disappointed when none of your books came with pictures anymore. Blog readers can be a lot like that kid, but there is no teacher telling them that they have to read your image-bare blog.

Readers don’t really like to read that much. An appropriate image breaking up a page makes sure that your post does not end up looking long and intimidating. It also just looks better.

Enable comments.

Blogging is a form of social media, and if your readers cannot sound off, it isn’t so social anymore. Comments can be scary, as one could be negative or even evil, but they are completely necessary. If your readers don’t have their say, they may not come back.

You can filter comments, however. Don’t just open the floodgates. Turn away spammers before their posts end up on your pages. Moderate out anything mean, hateful or otherwise inappropriate. Just be sure that you don’t ditch every contrary comment; you will look very one sided and not very credible if you ditch every comment that doesn’t agree.

Conclusion

These are just some words of wisdom for the beginning blogger. As you get started, you will surely start learning about even more things you can do to build an even better blog.

The biggest thing to remember as you start blogging is that your blog should be about quality and value. Every post, comment, image, and more should be done with quality in mind, as putting out the very best content you can is what will bring your visitors back again and again.
